Ordering Custom Snack Seasonings: 4 Tips

by Charles Pieter

If you make seasoned popcorn, potato chips, or any other type of snack mix, it may take you a lot of time to measure out all of the individual seasonings and ingredients for your recipes. An alternative is to outsource this work to a snack seasoning company. There are companies that keep a wide range of spices and herbs on hand. They will mix those spices and herbs together, as needed, to create custom snack seasonings for their customers. Here are some tips to follow when ordering from such a company.

Start with just one seasoning mix

If you have five or ten different snacks you make, you may be tempted to just jump right in and order formulated seasoning mixes for them all. But it's usually best to start with just one. This way, you can figure out how the company's process works and work through it with just one seasoning to think about. Then, once you understand the process and have worked out the kinks, you can have them make the rest of your seasonings.

Ask for a sample

Generally, these companies have a rather large minimum order. You don't want five or ten pounds of your seasoning to arrive, only for you to realize it's too garlicky or too spicy. So, ask the snack seasoning company if they can make and send you a sample before preparing your larger order. Some snack seasoning companies do this by default. Others only do it on request, so don't hesitate to ask.

Order larger quantities

Much of the work involved with making snack seasonings comes with the process of mixing all the ingredients together. As such, most snack seasoning companies offer better deals on large quantities since they have to do the same amount of work as with a smaller batch. So, plan on bulk ordering your snack seasonings, if possible. You'll save money by ordering 10 pounds every 2 months instead of 5 pounds every month, for example.

Store your seasonings properly

Ask the seasoning company how they recommend storing their snack seasonings, and follow their instructions. In general, you want to store the seasonings in a sealed container. Depending on the ingredients, they may tell you to refrigerate it, too.

If you follow the tips above when ordering a snack seasoning mix, you should have a good experience. It's so much easier to order these mixes than to make them yourself.
